My dad bought me this locket last year at an organic market in Bryanston. I love lockets. If I could, I would wear 5 at once.

I really love the little flowers and leaves- you have to look hard to make them out. I won’t show you what’s inside. No I won’t.

Chelsea brought me this dress back from Brazil earlier this year. She found it in a second hand market somewhere. She also found me a teeny tiny St Christopher, which I have misplaced. (I’m sorry). I will find it. The dress needs a little sewing on the side, which I will get around to very shortly. I love the collar and the pocket with the brown piping. I also really love the hilarious see-through buttons. I wonder who used to wear this gem.

Rainy days: procrastination power hour

Exams begin on Thursday, and no one in the house can study. Or, more honestly, no one wants to study. It’s been raining solidly since yesterday afternoon and the cabin fever is official. So, obviously, the most natural thing to do is to turn to origami.

I think I’ll submit this for the Joburg leg of Night of a Thousand Drawings.

A while ago, Chelsea gave me this lovely Ted Hughes book for my birthday. To my delight, there is a series of poetry books with similar covers. The cover artworks aren’t all done by the same artists, but the styles are similar nonetheless, and maybe one day I will have a lovely set. I bought the W.B. Yeats one to start. At the same time, I noticed two more books on the classics shelf with equally gorgeous covers. I must admit, having never read any of the tales from the Arabian Nights, I’ve found them to be a lot weirder than expected.

I bought this drawing from Night of 1000 drawings in Cape Town last night. I’m sure you all know about it, but if you don’t, it works like this: You sumbit an A5 drawing, drawn with anything on anything. The drawings are collected and exhibited on one night, where they’re sold for R100 each. The proceeds go to charity. It was a really lovely evening and there were great bands and DJs and things happening on each level of the building. My drawing had a name and email on the back and was drawn by a girl called Megan M’Namara. Thanks Megan, I like it a lot.

Old Macdonald had a farm

I love animals so much. Yesterday I came home to my parents in Joburg. I was so happy to see my two dogs and they were so happy to see me. Life without pets just isn’t as awesome. I found this little puppy at Le Chatelaine in Fish Hoek too. He’s quite big and he was only R30. Lucky me. He doesn’t run or bark or rub his nose on me, but at least I can look at him while I’m in Cape Town. I’ve named him Jaco Schalwyk, after Jaco Schalwyk from a hilaroius and slightly hectic video I watched the other day.

Le Chatelaine

I found a new bow brooch for my collection of bows. It comes from a shop called Le Chatelaine on Main Road in Fish Hoek. My friend Ash took me there and we found a few nice things. I think this was my best find though. It’s a pretty nice little shop. The clothes were okay, but the pictures and ornaments were awesome.

Are you a nurse or a schoolgirl or are you dressed up as Alice in Wonderland? I can’t tell.

I got this little dress at the Salvation Army in Mowbray, Cape Town, for R10. It needed a bit of shortening, which I may have done quite badly, but I still love it lots. It looks like I’m a bit of a nurseschoolgirlaliceinwonderland. I haven’t found cool stuff there in a little while, but every now and then I find some gems. It’s on Main Road just passed the Lower Campus of UCT.
